The Virgin credit card was launched under Virgin Money, part of Richard Branson’s conglomerate of companies back in 2003. After a contract was signed between Virgin and Westpac this card seized to exist after June 2009.
The card was very popular with up to 800,000 virgin credit card accounts opened up. This was due to the low cost nature of the card and a low interest rate on all purchases.Virgin Credit Card Re-launch
Under a new contract with Citibank the virgin credit card will be re launched very soon. The joint venture will see more virgin financial product be released to all Australian’s as well. These include savings account, mortgages and long term deposit accounts.
With this new joint venture Citibank hopes to add half a million new virgin card accounts to its portfolio. With the end result of obtaining an Australian credit card market share of over 12%, this would mean that it would be a direct threat to the big 4 Australian banks.
