The American Express Centurion Card
Posted on March 21st, 2011 No commentsThe AmEx Centurion Card makes the average platinum credit card seem like a no frills card, because it is truly in a league of its own. Internationally known as the “Black Card,” due to its classy metallic black exterior, the AmEx Centurion is arguably the most exclusive credit card in the world.
Many borrowers believe that simply owning the Black Card is a privilege in itself. Only a handful of Australians possess the card, and very few people are eligible for it. Prospective users cannot apply online or in a branch like other credit cards. Rather, the AmEx Centurion card is an invitation only product. Only Australians who make considerable sums (millions) per annum can expect an invite, and only if they have a history with the lender and the AmEx Platinum card.
The Benefits
Most affluent Australians travel on a constant basis, and AmEx has attempted to meet their requirements. The Centurion Card operates its own travel agency which will make any travel and accommodation reservations for card holders. Furthermore, just as with all great luxurious credit cards, a 24 hour concierge service is protocol.
Users who book a single international travel ticket will receive a complimentary companion ticket for a spouse, relative or friend. Travelling in style and luxury is always best with company. Users will also be granted a personal shopper at high end fashion stores, such as Gucci. The personal shopper will assist the user in picking the trendiest attire, which is especially handy when purchasing a gift.
Furthermore, all air travel tickets are automatically upgraded to first class tickets, and users have global access to highly exclusive airport clubs, where they will be given VIP treatment while waiting for their flight to depart.
The Costs
The annual fee varies from country to country. Currently, Australian users are not subject to an annual fee, but it is common for American cardholders to pay $4,300. The interest rate is not stated but users can expect to pay at least 25%.
The AmEx Centurion is not a credit card for small spenders. Users who spend less than $200,000 a year on their AmEx Platinum Credit Card should not expect to receive an invite in the mail anytime soon. In comparison to the amount spent annually on the average Centurion card, the annual fee of $4,300 seems pretty minute. Just as well, because most AmEx Centurion Credit Card users are usually celebrities or heirs of great fortune.
