  • How to Redeem a Round Trip Flight With Reward Points

Posted on February 20th, 2011 admin No comments

Air travel is the most popular reward that credit card users seek when they convert their reward points into a tangible reward.  Often due their cost saving perks, reward flights enable users to save more cash for their trip, while enabling them to travel to further destinations and stay for considerably longer. Most Australians plan on taking a vacation in the coming years, so it is prudent to consider a credit card with airline benefits.

Nonetheless, not all airline reward credit cards offer the same value, so card users should assess each program before signing up. Various credit cards offer airline reward points but the goal is to find the one that best meets the needs of the user. By asking three simple questions users will be directed to the perfect card which saves their valued time and money.

    Where is the ideal destination?

Before signing up for any credit cards, customers should find out which airlines participate in the reward program. Users are sure to know where they would like to visit, so they should make sure the credit card and partner airlines can take them there. An airline rewards program that cannot take users to their ideal destination is definitely not useful or valuable.

    How many points are required?

The point structure of each reward program is also important. Firstly, consumers should discover how many reward points are required to reach their goal. Next, they should analyse how points are earned, as some programs offer up to 2 points per dollar spent whereas others offer less than 1 point for each dollar. Consequently, some cards make it difficult for users to earn enough points to be redeemed for a free flight.

Certain lenders impose a limit to the amount of points that can be earned, whereas others create an expiration date which will void the points if they have not been used within a certain period.  The card that allows users to get the most points for their spending is unquestionably the best option.

    Are there any limitations?

Unfortunately, there are several restrictions and limitations inherent in any flight reward programs. These restrictions usually determine when the flight can be scheduled or the class of the seat which will be provided.  Fees will also apply if users wish to make any changes. As long as users understand the regulations and are not surprised when the information is bestowed unto them, they can choose the appropriate card that best suits their flight needs.

With the right rewards program, card users can book a free (or cheap) flight which will take them wherever their heart desires. The last steps require users to book the flight, which should be done months in advance to increase the chances of getting the perfect flight.
